The path toward a more streamlined and practical sustainability reporting process is beginning to take shape. The EFRAG (European Financial Reporting Advisory Group) has submitted its new work plan to the European Commission, aimed at revising and simplifying the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
The goal is clear: to provide technical advice by October 31, 2025, that eases the reporting burden on companies—without compromising the effectiveness, proportionality, or quality of the information disclosed.
This new plan reflects the experiences of companies that have already faced the first wave of ESRS implementation (financial year 2024). It includes a public consultation scheduled between late July and early September and is being developed in close collaboration with the European Commission. Transparency and stakeholder engagement are the cornerstones of this approach.
This is a crucial step toward refining the European sustainability standards, making them increasingly aligned with the operational realities of businesses.
